Quote of the week...

Paul Kagame said, “Whether you read the Bible or the Koran or the dictionary …there is nowhere you will find it written that Rwanda or Africa are meant to remain poor, or that we are subhuman and there are others who are superior to us and therefore should look after us. The struggle to move from poverty to development is about bringing ou t the best that we are and that we can be, and it is within us, within our children…”

BRAVEST MOUSE EVER.....

Image
A mouse stealing a leopard’s lunch.........can you believe it?! Seemingly unaware of the beast towering over it, the tiny rodent grabbed at scraps of meat thrown into the African leopard ’s enclosure. But instead of pouncing on the tiny intruder, the 12-year-old leopard, Sheena, kept her distance. After a few minutes she tried to nudge the mouse away with her nose, but the determined little guy kept chewing away until he was full. The extraordinary scene was captured by photography student, Casey Gutteridge, at the Santago Rare Leopard Project in Hertfordshire, England. The 19-year-old Casey, photographing the leopard for a course project, was astounded by the mouse’s behavior. He said had no idea where the mouse came from. It just appeared after the keeper had dropped in the meat for the leopard. Taking no notice of the leopard, the mouse went straight over to the meat and started eating. Even when the leopard bent down and nudged him, th...

Little John again this Monday...

A teacher asks the class to name things that eat things using big words that end with 'tor'. The first little boy says, "Alligator." "Very good, that's a big word."  says the teacher.   The second boy says, " Predator ." "Yes, that's another big word. Well done." says the teacher. Then little John came up and says, "Vibrator." After nearly falling off her chair, the teacher says, "That is a big word, but it doesn't eat anything." Little John replied "Well my sister has one and she says it eats batteries like there's no tomorrow!"

New York bank's online banking system hacked

Image
An intruder broke into the online banking system of Suffolk County National Bank in November and accessed the login credentials of 8,378 customers, bank officials disclosed this week. The intrusion into a computer server hosting SCNB's online banking system was discovered Dec. 24 through an internal security review, according to a statement issued by the bank's parent company, Riverhead, N.Y.-based Suffolk Bancorp. The unauthorized access occurred between Nov. 18 and Nov. 23. The bank immediately isolated and rebuilt the compromised server and has taken additional steps to secure the data on it, officials said. SCNB said it hasn't found any evidence of unauthorized access to online banking accounts. "We haven't received any reports of unusual activity or financial loss," Douglas Ian Shaw, corporate secretary at Suffolk Bancorp said in an interview Wednesday. He said the compan...

5 lessons about the way we treat people

Our reporter, DSM. 1 - First Important Lesson - Cleaning Lady.  During my second month of college, our professor  gave us a pop quiz. I was a conscientious student and had breezed through the questions until I read the last one: "What is the first name of the woman who cleans the school?" Surely this was some kind of joke. I had seen the cleaning woman several times. She was tall, dark-haired and in her 50's, but how would I know her name? I handed in my paper, leaving the last question blank. Just before class ended, one student asked if the last question would count toward our quiz grade. "Absolutely, " said the professor. "In your careers, you will meet many people.  All are significant.. They deserve your attention and care, even if all you do is smile and say "hello." I've never forgotten that lesson. I also learned her name was Dorothy.  2. - Second Important Lesson - Pickup in the Rain  O ne night, at 11:30 p.m., an olde...

Plate weighing device 'can curb childhood obesity'

Image
A talking, computerised weighing device that tracks how quickly food is gobbled off the plate could be a solution to childhood obesity, researchers say. The Mandometer keeps tabs during meal times and tells the user if they are wolfing down meals too fast - a habit experts have linked to weight gain. In a trial with 106 obese children the gadget showed promising results, the British Medical Journal reports online. After 12 months of use the children weighed less and ate smaller portions. Their speed of eating was reduced by 11% compared with a gain of 4% in a comparison group. What tends to happen when we eat alone or while watching the TV is we eat more quickly Lead researcher Professor Julian Hamilton-Shield Experts believe eating too fast can interfere with an inbuilt signalling system that tells the brain...

Little John new year story...

Teacher says "Whoever answers the questions I ask, first and correctly can leave early today." Johnny says "Good, I want to get outta here." Teacher says “Who said 'Four Score and Seven Years Ago'?" Before Johnny can open his mouth, Susie says, "Abraham Lincoln." Right Susie, you can go home.” Teacher says "Who said ' I Have a Dream '?" Mary quickly says, " Martin Luther King ." "That's right, you can go." Teacher asked: "Who said 'Ask not, what your country can do for you'?" Nancy shouts, "John F. Kennedy." Teacher: "That's right Nancy, you may also leave." Johnny is boiling mad. When the teacher turns her back Johnny says aloud……"I wish these bitches would keep their mouths shut!" The teacher turns around & says: "NOW WHO SAID THAT?!" Johnny answered: " TIGER WOODS . CAN I GO NOW?"
