PRESS RELEASE

                                WARNING OF HEAVY RAINFALL

This information follows the heavy rainfall warning issued by Tanzania Meteorological Agency yesterday 27 April 2010.

There is an existence of a heavy cloud extending from the south-west Indian Ocean spreading over the whole coastal belt of Tanzania. The rainfall patterns indicate that this situation is expected to persist until tomorrow causing rainfall over most areas of Dar es Salaam, Coast, Tanga, Morogoro, Lindi, Mtwara and isles of Zanzibar and Pemba.

In view of this situation Tanzania Meteorological Agency is issuing a warning on persistence of moderate and heavy at times rainfall associated with strong winds and likelihood of flash floods in most parts of the coastal areas. In this regard, the public is advised to take precaution especially for those having activities over low-lying areas and Indian Ocean.

Tanzania Meteorological Agency will continue to monitor the situation and issue updates.

Dr. Agnes L. Kijazi
Ag DIRECTOR GENERAL
