  • THE Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) has imposed rigorous measures designed to curb dumping of petroleum products on transit to neighbouring countries on the local market, industry sources told the 'Daily News' yesterday. They said localisation of fuel and other petroleum product destined to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Rwanda, Burundi,

Malawi and Zambia was a vice that deny the government billions of shillings in tax revenue. Sources claim that dumping and adulteration of petroleum products was mushrooming because there was no professional fuel marking firm to check the malpractice at loading points and pump stations, a move that would have curbed the “dirty game.”

Official statistics show increased amount of fuel being declared to have entered the country, while the volume of fuel said to have landed for domestic consumption was on the decline. The figures indicate that the volume of transit fuel has gone up by 52 per cent over the last three years.
